John Miller broke into the sports medicine industry in 1994 when he purchased Econoline Products, Inc. from George and Grace Watson, two of sports medicine’s earliest manufacturers and supporters. George Watson introduced many products to the industry, most notably, Econowrap (pre-wrap), Heel & Lace Pads, Super Foam and Memory Foam. Miller added to what the Watsons started and expanded Econoline’s product line and its customer base. Under Miller’s guidance and lots of dedication from Econoline’s long-time manufacturing supervisor, Doug Patterson, Econoline became a national sports medicine competitor filling the needs of the athletic training room and flourishing as a foam and felt innovator and provider.
After owning and operating Econoline for six years Miller merged Econoline with School Health Corporation and became its National Sales Manager for the School Nurse and Sports Medicine Industries. Miller had other roles too, serving as School Health’s President of Sports Health, a division of School Health Corporation and President of the Econoline Products division. Miller enjoyed a long and prosperous career with School Health expanding their business in both the school nurse and sports medicine industries. Miller worked with and expanded the Sports Health sales force to include some of the industries best Tom Rokovitz, Peter Hovorka, Brian Matix, Jim Garofalo, Amy Bauer, Bonnie Bozeman and John Johnston. Sports Health became one of the premier sports medicine distribution companies working with high schools, colleges and pro teams across the country, developing much success in several significant markets – Professional Hockey, Professional Football, Major League Baseball, Professional Basketball, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Southeastern Conference, the Southern Conference and the Big TEN Conference, Pac 10 Conference, Big EAST Conference, Mountain West Conference, National Athletic Trainers Association, College Athletic Trainers Society.
Over the years, Miller has become the “go-to” guy for manufacturers that want to introduce new products/equipment into sports medicine or for manufacturers that require some additional assistance marketing their products/equipment to athletic trainers and/or physical therapists. It is because of Miller’s interest and success marketing and selling new products in the industry that he organized and started Icon Medical, LLC, a manufacturer’s representative company focused on the sports medicine industry contracting with a select group of manufacturers to represent their products/equipment in sports medicine.
Icon Medical will market their products through the major sports medicine distributors of the industry and work directly with those companies by working with their sales teams, their marketing departments, their purchasing departments, the industries’ athletic trainers, physical therapists, coaches and athletic directors. Icon Medical will only sell through distribution and support those distributors carrying the Icon Medical lines of products.
